Parigi, maggio 1968.
La città si sveglia tappezzata di manifesti. Fin da subito, chiunque può rendersi conto del significato delle affissioni: non si tratta di una campagna pubblicitaria o di un gesto puramente estetico, bensì di un atto intento ad esternare il malcontento di un’enorme fetta di società. Nonostante questa operazione sia stata ideata da un gruppo di studenti insieme ad alcuni lavoratori, il disagio che porta ai moti del ‘68 coinvolge molte altre minoranze, come le donne e gli omosessuali, ancora in un livello inferiore all’interno della società.
Philipe Vermès, studente della Ecole National Supérieure des Beaux Arts (Scuola Nazionale Superiore delle Belle Arti), vuole partecipare in modo attivo alle proteste che già erano in atto. Pensa allora di coinvolgere la comunità artistica della scuola, composta dagli altri studenti, e di occupare il rinomato laboratorio di litografia dell’istituto. In poco tempo vengono ideati e realizzati i manifesti che, successivamente, copriranno Parigi.
Gli abitanti della città, essendo stati travolti da questi messaggi di propaganda visiva così diretta e immediata, sono chiamati a interessarsi a ciò che succede attorno a loro, a dimostrare che queste rivolte coinvolgono tutta la società francese e non solo le minoranze, da cui tutto è iniziato.
Ai giorni d’oggi possiamo definirci come una generazione che continua a battersi intensamente per i propri diritti, andando incontro a qualsiasi ostacolo che ci capita davanti, senza esitazione. Spesso l’arte ha un ruolo fondamentale nelle manifestazioni odierne, ma possiamo dire che essa sia così avvolgente come nel particolare caso parigino del ‘68?
